Love this! I think it is quite profound. I interpret this as we are the energy in physical form that the universe or Source has set forth to be the explorers and to expand thought by our experiences in this realm. It is a beautiful cooperation and our findings and experiences here are stimulating to all that is. I have also heard a variation of this: We are the wave; the individualized expression of the ocean, which is Source.
